These handmade face coverings feature a window enabling those who are hard of hearing or deaf to be able to lip read or see expressions whilst you are wearing the mask. They can also be beneficial when working with small children who may find it difficult not being able to see your expression.
Each covering can be made in the following sizes:
Large adult - fits most adults
Medium adult - fits adults with a smaller face/head
Youth - suitable for teenagers
Small youth - suitable for teenagers with a smaller face or younger ages
Each covering is made of two layers of cotton and feature a nose wire to ensure a snug fit. The window is made of plastic vinyl. Unfortunately it is not possible to make these layers with three layers of cotton due to the plastic window. However, the plastic is not permeable therefore any droplets will only exit or enter via the surrounding layers of cotton.
You can choose from over the ear straps or those which go around the back of your head. Straps around the back of the head give a much better fit, therefore we would recommend choosing this option.
Over the ear masks will come with approximately 6 inches of elastic sewn together. If they are too loose, pop a knot in the elastic to ensure a snug fit. Around the back of your head masks will come with ample elastic untied for you to tie to fit. You can chose to wear them above and below the ears or both below, but please ensure a snug fit.
They can be washed in warm soapy water, or at a maximum of 30’C in a washing machine and left to dry. Do not tumble.
We recommend washing them when they arrive before use. The window can also be wiped clean with a soft cloth and antibacterial spray. Each mask will be lined with either black or white fabric, whichever suits the facing fabric best, and the same colour elastic.
Please allow 5-10 working days for your order to be made and dispatched. If you need your order sooner please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your request and we will do our upmost to meet it.
Caution - This mask is NOT rated for disease control. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has provided the following information regarding homemade face masks: The role of facemasks is for patient source control, to reduce contamination of the surrounding area when a person coughs or sneezes. Patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 should wear a facemask until they are isolated in a hospital or at home. Most facemasks do not effectively filter small particles from the air and do not prevent leakage around the edge of the mask when the user inhales.* When professional facemasks are not available, healthcare personnel might use homemade masks for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, caution should be exercised when considering this option since their capability to protect healthcare personnel is unknown.
